Hedgehogs

Hedgehog Class is made up of 12 children and is part of Key Stage 1 (KS1), alongside Woodpeckers and Badgers. The children in Hedgehog Class are supported with their Communication and Social Emotional Mental Health needs. We pride ourselves on always using ‘Total Communication’ within our classroom, this includes Makaton, symbols and specialist resources. The children have access to the outdoors and quiet intervention spaces within our KS1 area of the school. This helps us support the children’s individual learning needs. Children in Hedgehog Class access an adapted curriculum that captures their interests and gives the opportunity for children to achieve their individual targets. Lessons link to a weekly book focus. We use a range of resources to help structure our lessons such as a visual timetable to support children with transitions as well as now and next boards.    

Our Hedgehog Team is led by Mr Abbott (Class teacher) and three Teaching Assistants. We strive to inspire every child to achieve their full potential whilst enjoying every aspect of their learning journey at Woodsetton School. We always promote a happy and safe learning environment.   

Class Updates :

• Our PE days are Wednesdays and Thursdays. PE kit is required and kept in school. Please could you ensure all the children’s belongings are clearly labelled. We will be practising dressing and undressing as part of personal development.  

• Your child will have a reading book and a reading record, please ensure these come into school each day with your child.  

• Your child will have a Home/ School Communication Book for us and you to share any communication, information for minor issues. We also have a class email, this is hedgehog@woodsetton.dudley.sch.uk
